GALWAY SICK KIDS

SUPPORTING CHILDREN & THEIR FAMILIES ATTENDING
THE PAEDIATRIC UNIT OF UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL GALWAY

Supporting Children & their Families

We began Galway Sick Kids in order to raise funds to make a difference and improve the hospital experience for the children attending University Hospital Galway’s Paediatric unit.

We wanted to support the children and their families through stressful times by providing basic facilities, equipment and information in a child-focused, friendly environment. Our charity helps the children of Galway, Donegal, Sligo, Roscommon, Mayo and North Clare.

We Are Looking For Donations!

Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets – VR can reduce the pain and anxiety associated with a wide  range of medical procedures in children. These are being trialed in other Paediatric units and will eventually be purchased for St Bernadettes.

Blood Gas Analysis – any breathing difficulties, shortness of breath or other respiratory problems require an analysis of blood gases. Currently in St Bernadette’s the Clinician taking the sample has to bring the sample to the lab for analysis thus requiring a larger sample due to the time involved and taking the clinician away from other important work – doing it in the unit saves time and requires only a miniscule sample

Redecoration of the Paediatric Unit in murals and primary colours along with current  evidence-based design strategies which can help develop a healing environment – helping children relax and engage with their journey back to health.
